NEGROS ORIENTAL, June 11 (PIA) - The provincial government of Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City will join the rest of the country's celebration of the 121st Independence Day on June 12 with this year's theme "Kalayaan 2019: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan" in two separate venues.
The province will gather the national and provincial government officials and personnel in front of the Provincial Capitol Building while the City Hall employees and other invited school officials and non-government organizations will be at the Presidencia at 6:00 a.m. for the local commemoration.
This year's theme underscores an inspiration to every freedom-loving Filipino to devote time and commitment to struggle for change for a prolific future of the nation.
Gov. Roel Degamo and Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo are expected to lead the independence rites.
The program will start after the simultaneous ringing of church bells, taps, and sounding of sirens and raising and waving of flaglets at 7:00 a.m.
Some offices are asked to bring bouquet of flowers for wreath-laying to be offered during the ceremony.
The highlight of the activity is the raising of Philippine Flag and singing of the National Anthem after the floral offering in the city.
This will be followed by a recitation of the Panatang Makabayan by a representative of the Department of Education and ecumenical invocation.
Knights of Columbus is assigned as honor guard for the celebration.
Both the province and city invited religious leaders of the Diocese of Dumaguete along with Silliman Church and the Muslim Community for the ecumenical invocation during the event.
The celebration will also include the singing of "Bayan Ko" and reciting of the pledge of the Filipino Flag. (jct/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
