MAASIN CITY, September 11 (PIA) - The local government unit of Maasin City joined the entire nation in celebrating the 25th National Crime Prevention Week on September 1-7, 2019, together with the other LGUs in Southern Leyte province in a kickoff ceremony held at the city gym, Sept. 6.
According to lawyer Haidee O. Borja, provincial officer of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), the celebration reminded every member of the five pillars of the justice system namely, the community, law enforcement, prosecution, courts and corrections of their roles and responsibilities in combating crimes in the society.
Borja said to the participants that NAPOLCOM earlier called for the implementation of the Community Service-Oriented Policing System through the triumvirate of the local chief executives, the Philippine National Police and the community.
"It is a system for strengthening partnerships and collaboration for the more effective and efficient way of delivering services to the community," she said.
Borja also quoted Undersecretary Marivel Sacendoncillo of the Department of the Interior and Local Government that "the goal now is to win the war without firing a single shot. That the best victory is won without even engaging in war."
She further said that crime solution is not gained purely by apprehending criminals and punishing them but by fostering a culture of peace and order in the community.
The crime prevention celebration this year was participated in by representatives from different national line agencies including LGUs, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, PDEA, students and barangay officals. (LDL/ESG/PIA-8, Southern Leyte)
