A Pound 340,000 Cycleway / Footway and carriageway resurfacing scheme on the Dublin Road, Omagh has commenced.
A Pound 340,000 Cycleway / Footway and carriageway resurfacing scheme on the Dublin Road, Omagh has commenced.
The works will extend along the C0663 Dublin Road, Omagh to provide approximately 530 metres of new Cycleway / Footway from Belvedere Park junction towards the junction of Ballynahatty Road along the Western side of the Dublin Road.
This new Cycleway / Footway will be an extension of the new Cycleway / Footway facilities which have recently been constructed along the Dublin Road from Townview Avenue towards the Belvedere Park junction. This scheme will further provide approximately 200 metres of new footway along the eastern side of the Dublin Road extending from Dublin Road Cemetery, improvement of sightlines, upgrading of drainage and resurfacing of the Dublin Road carriageway.
Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon welcomed the scheme:
"This scheme is part of my commitment to the delivery of active travel schemes across the North and to making walking, wheeling and cycling a safer and more attractive option for people getting around. This will greatly enhance provision for cyclists and pedestrians and provide further opportunities for active travel. When complete the upgraded route will provide an improved facility in the Omagh area to encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling at this location.
"I would like to thank local residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation and ask that they comply with all temporary traffic restrictions while these much needed works are completed."
The work will involve widening the existing footway along the western side of the carriageway and resurfacing of the Dublin Road between Belvedere Park junction and the junction of Ballynahatty Road to provide a new combined Cycleway / Footway whilst further providing an extension to the existing footway network along the eastern side of the carriageway.
Road users are advised that lane closures and a period of road closure will be required to facilitate the construction process and to take extra care in the vicinity of the works especially due to shorter daylight hours with darker mornings on the road network.
The Department has programmed the work operations and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, however, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works and are asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions. Local access for residents and emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Subject to favourable weather conditions all work will be completed by 18 March 2022, however, the Department will keep the public informed of any change.
All work will be carried out in line with current public health and health and safety advice, with safe systems of working in place for staff and contractors.
