The Columbus Crew signed veteran defender Milos Degenek of Australia through the 2023 season.
The deal announced Monday for the 27-year-old free agent includes options for 2024 and 2025.
Degenek most recently played for Red Star Belgrade in the Serbian First Division, where he won three league titles.
He has also played professionally in Saudi Arabia, Japan and Germany dating back to 2013.
Internationally, Degenek has earned 33 caps for Australia, participating in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
"Milos is a center back who brings championship experience and leadership to our squad," Crew president and general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a news release. "In addition to winning domestic and continental titles at the club level, Milos has earned valuable experience with the Australian National Team, including the 2018 World Cup. We believe his attributes will serve him well in our league and look forward to seeing him make an impact in our team."
Degenek will occupy an international roster slot for the Crew, who open the 2022 MLS season at home against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Feb. 26.
