LOS ANGELES, California: Brooklyn Beckham, the son of David and Victoria Beckham, has accused his parents of trying to sabotage his marriage to American actor Nicola Peltz.
Brooklyn also wrote in several pages of text posted via Instagram stories that his parents have always prioritized public branding over their family relationships.
"For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into," Brooklyn Beckham wrote.
At 26, he's the eldest of the four children of the retired English soccer superstar and former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer, and has worked as a model and photographer, even aspiring to be a chef.
His wife Nicola is the daughter of activist investor Nelson Peltz. They were married in 2022.
"Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they'll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out," the posts said.
The social media posts made public a family fight that had been the subject of gossip stories for months. In December, Brooklyn's younger brother, Cruz, said on Instagram that Brooklyn had blocked family members online.
Brooklyn later wrote, "I do not want to make up with my family. I'm not being controlled. I'm standing up for myself for the first time."
Unlike his three younger siblings, Brooklyn did not appear in his mother Victoria Beckham's recent Netflix series, and he did not attend the October premiere. He and his wife, Nicola Peltz, attended the 2023 London premiere of the Netflix show about his father, titled Beckham.
Many of the problems he mentioned are linked to his wedding in Florida. He said his mother backed out of designing Nicola's wedding dress at the last minute and took over the first dance he was supposed to have with his wife, to music by Marc Anthony.
Brooklyn wrote that she danced with him in a way that made him feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed in front of everyone.
He also said, without giving details, that before the wedding, his parents pressured him and tried to bribe him to sign away rights to his name.
David and Victoria Beckham did not respond publicly right away, and their representatives did not respond to media questions.
On Tuesday, David Beckham spoke on CNBC while at a meeting in Davos, Switzerland. He did not directly address his son's posts, but said that children sometimes make mistakes on social media and should be allowed to learn from them.
David and Victoria Beckham have been married since 1999 and have three other children: Romeo (23), Cruz (20), and Harper (14).
